Blockchain Startup Blockstack Teams With Lambda School To Tackle American Student Debt

Blockstack PBC, a public benefit corporation focused on pushing the decentralized Blockstack computing network forward, has teamed with Lambda School to help students offset tuition and create new career pathways.

Based in New York, Blockstack is building an ecosystem that gives users control over their fundamental digital rights: identity, data-ownership, privacy, and security. It is an open source project with core developers and contributors located around the world.

Lambda School is a technical training program where students are guaranteed jobs upon graduation. Students do not have to pay if they do not get a job that pays $50K or more. Furthermore, students repay the school from their paychecks, rather than paying tuition up front. Currently, it offers 4 different online bootcamps, all with different topics, different schedules, and different lengths of time to completion of the course. Courses include Computer science, Data science, Web development and Machine learning.

Lambda’s partnership with Blockstack means that students enrolled in the program will now have the opportunity to learn how to code Blockstack apps and earn monthly revenue through Blockstack’s App Mining program. Blockstack will also support the student development teams by supplying a range of tools needed to ensure applications undergo quality control testing.

“We are opening a pathway for students to have hands-on experience with the newest, cutting-edge technology, while also providing reward payments,” said Muneeb Ali, CEO of Blockstack PBC. “This is the sort of program I wish was available to me when I was a young student, and I have no doubt the lessons learned here will help Lambda School students excel as they enter the innovative world of technology.”

According to Blockstack, expert app reviewers will make an assessment of the quality of all apps and apply a rank every month. The higher apps rise in ranks, the larger the payout that team receives each month through the Blockstack App Mining Program. The monthly payouts for the highest ranking applications is planned to gradually increase to a target of $1 million in STX tokens by May 2020.

“At Lambda School, our goal is to remove as many barriers to high-paying careers as we can for our students,” said Austen Allred, co-founder and CEO of Lambda School. “We design our curriculum based on the exact criteria hiring managers look for, ensuring graduates have mastered all of the practical skills they need to succeed. The partnership with Blockstack is aligned with that mission. It gives Lambda School students a direct path for gaining real-world development experience while earning additional income for their work.”
