California woman killed after man jumped from parking structure onto her, authorities say
A woman was killed when a man jumped off a parking structure and landed on her in downtown San Diego, authorities said.
Taylor Kahle, 29, was walking with a man on the evening of April 25 when she was hit by the falling man, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. Kahle died at the scene.
The man, who appeared to be in his 20s, was taken to a hospital, where he died, according to the medical examiner. He had been observed entering the parking structure and then hanging off the ninth-floor balcony, the medical examiner said.
He has not been identified.
Kahle’s walking companion was injured, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune. San Diego police Sgt. Dave Yu also told the paper the situation was tragic.
“Life is very unpredictable and very precious,” he said.
Kahle was a San Diego native and had gone to college there, her boss told KSWB-TV.
“I have one daughter and if my daughter ends up like her, I’ll be very proud,” Laurel McFarlane said.

Kahle’s death also happened days before her 30th birthday, where she had planned to go wine tasting with some friends, her boss told the station.
She was “just so excited about this party,” McFarlane said.
MacFarlane also posted a tribute on her company’s Facebook page.
“I know Taylor touched many and she was one of the good ones,” she said. “I will never understand why she had to leave this life so soon.”
She had spent the last year with her father and the two were very close, McFarlane added on Facebook. She also had adopted two rescue dogs.
“I know she was the happiest when he was around as well with all her dogs she rescued,” McFarlane said.
“He wanted people to know she was an incredible daughter and she loved her dad with passion. She took care of him and he took care of her,” she added to KSWB-TV.
By Monday evening, flowers, photos and cards were placed near the intersection where Kahle died, KSWB-TV reported.
A celebration of life for Kahle will be planned in the coming weeks, according to McFarlane.
