Sun coach Curt Miller fined $10,000, suspended one game for comments about Liz Cambage’s weight
The WNBA fined Connecticut Sun coach Curt Miller $10,000 and issued him a one-game suspension for his comments to a referee regarding an opposing player's weight.
Las Vegas Aces center Liz Cambage, who had 10 points and seven rebounds in a 72-65 loss to Connecticut on Sunday, said that Miller complained to an official about a foul call because she weighed "300 pounds."
Here's Cambage's full account, via her Instagram story:
"To the coach of Connecticut, I'm sorry, little sir man, I do not know your name, but the next time you try to call (to) a referee trying to get a call being like 'Come on, she's 300 pounds,' I'm going to need you to get it right, baby," Cambage said. "Because I'm 6-8, I weigh — I just double-checked because I love to be correct and get facts — I'm weighing 235 pounds.
"I'm very proud of being a big (expletive)."
Miller apologized for his comments in a statement Monday, saying, "I regret what I said in the heat of the moment and want to sincerely apologize to Liz and the entire Aces organization. I understand the gravity of my words and have learned from this."
