Dogecoin Creator Billy Markus Pushes Twitter To Enable DOGE Tipping After Ethereum Wallet Support Was Added
The co-creator of the OG meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin, Billy Markus, has revealed that he will be strongly pushing for Twitter to add DOGE as a payment option via its tipping jar after the social media giant added bitcoin and most-recently Ethereum.
Not Just Bitcoin — Twitter Now Lets You Send Ethereum Tips
Months after introducing the bitcoin tipping feature, Twitter has now expanded to include Ethereum wallet addresses.
According to a Wednesday announcement, the social media platform said it has added a wide range of payment options to the tipping feature, including Ethereum. This means that users of its mobile version can now tip their favorite content creators in the second-largest cryptocurrency ethereum as well as ERC-20 tokens.
However, Ethereum Name Service (ENS) domain names will not be supported in the new feature.
Twitter’s tip jar feature was first announced in May last year. The San Francisco-based firm rolled out bitcoin tips later in September. Users who wish to tip in BTC can copy and paste the recipient’s BTC address or send the payments directly using the Strike app.
Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is a well-known bitcoin maxi who has made it clear on different occasions that he is not a fan of ethereum. Notably, Twitter has started allowing Ethereum tips on its app now that Dorsey is no longer at the helm of the company.
When DOGE Twitter-Native Tipping?
Dogecoin’s Markus has said he plans to make at least one tweet with the #DogeTwitterTipJar every single day in order to bring to the attention of the Twitter team that they need to add the canine-themed cryptocurrency.
Markus noted that the newly-minted Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal — who replaced Jack Dorsey after his resignation at the end of November 2021 — is currently on paternity leave. Nonetheless, he will “keep bugging” Twitter as he thinks Dogecoin-denominated tips should be allowed on Twitter. “What’s crypto tipping without the OG tipping currency?” the Dogecoin co-founder asked.
Markus went on to list why Twitter should add Dogecoin wallet support to the tipping feature in another tweet, saying the coin would be used the most due to its low fees and the community ethos. A Change.org petition aimed at convincing Twitter to add Dogecoin has received 333 of the required 500 signatures at the time of publication.
