Is OpenAI about to drop a new ChatGPT upgrade? Doubts over GPT-4.5 'leak'
OpenAI’s latest ChatGPT large language model, GPT4.5, could be launching sooner than expected — if a circulating screenshot is to be believed.
The purportedly “leaked” screenshot, which has been making the rounds on social media including X, shows a description of “GPT 4.5” which reads:
“Our most advanced model brings multi-model capabilities across language, audio, vision, video and 3D, alongside complex reasoning and cross-model understanding.”
However, many believe the “leaked” screenshot is a hoax. A Reddit thread on r/OpenAI that was posted around Dec. 14 at 10:30 am UTC — the possible source of the “leak” — has been removed by the moderators. Some comments on the thread slammed the OP for the “fake” post.
Abacus.AI CEO Bindu Reddy had second thoughts, 25 minutes after she initially shared the “leaked” screenshot herself, tweeting: “The leaked GPT4.5 pricing is almost definitely fake! The internet is manifesting what it really desires.”
Reddy said there were “quite a few minor details in the screenshot which are plain wrong.”
Cointelegraph has reached out to OpenAI for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
Whether OpenAI is really going to release GPT-4.5 or whether it will jump straight to GPT-5 is unknown. The next model would be the successor to GPT-4, which was released on March 14, 2023.
After GPT-3 was released in June 2020, it took two years to release GPT-3.5, which came out in March 2022.
OpenAI is already working on GPT-5. In July, the AI firm filed a trademark application for GPT5, which includes software for AI-based human speech and text, converting audio into text and voice and speech recognition.
In November, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told the Financial Times the company is working to develop GPT-5, though he did not commit to a timeline for its release.
