Accused North Perth stabber who ‘loved plunging knife into young victim’ granted bail
An 18-year-old man accused of stabbing a 17-year-old boy in the heart over a phoney drug deal was allegedly caught on tape saying he “loved it” and was “going to sleep like a baby” after the attack.
The incident occurred around 9.30pm on Bourke Street in North Perth on Saturday, with the Karrinyup teen charged with grievous bodily harm two days later.

A WA Police prosecutor claimed Jaden Martinovich carried out the attack after a drug deal arranged on social media with two associates aged 17 and 14 went wrong.
Martinovich is accused of possessing a clip seal bag full of salt which he pretended was methamphetamine.
After a verbal altercation between the teens, the victim is alleged to have got into Martinovich’s car and tried to drive away before being chased down and stabbed in the chest.
Dash cam audio shortly after the attack allegedly captured the accused saying: “I’m going to sleep like a baby tonight knowing I’ve plunged a knife into some c—’s vital organs. That’s awesome, loved doing that.”
Martinovich’s lawyer claimed the teen did not know about a drug deal and accidentally stabbed the victim during a tussle over the knife, which he claimed did not belong to him.
On Wednesday, Magistrate Richard Huston granted the teen bail, however he closed the court to hear the state and prosecutor’s arguments on the matter before making his decision.
Martinovich, who appeared via video link during the hearing, must provide a personal undertaking of $25,000 and a surety of $100,000 and was ordered to surrender his passport and be subject to a curfew.
He was supported in court by his parents.
A suppression order is in place prohibiting the publication of the victim’s identity. He remains in a critical but stable condition in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
The accused is next due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on September 14.
