Fox News host Tucker Carlson has slammed a performance at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards saying it was ‘intentionally trying to degrade our culture and hurt our children.’
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s dance routine for their song WAP contained x-rated pole-dancing by the pair, leading to criticism online and one anti-porn group labeling the performance ‘hardcore’ porn.
The dueling rappers left little to the imagination in their ode to female anatomy, marking the first time they’ve performed the hit live.
Carlson wasn’t the only one to take offense at the routine with an anti-porn group saying the show contributed to the sexual exploitation of women’ and the ‘normalization’ of porn culture.
Cardi B, 28, and Megan Thee Stallion, 26, put on a ultra-raunchy performance of their hit song WAP atop a monumental pink bed at the 2021 Grammy Awards on Sunday
The performance was at its raunchiest when Cardi B appeared atop a gigantic bed.
Tucker Carlson clammed against Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s performance of ‘WAP’ at the Grammys on Sunday night
Speaking with Candace Owens, right, Carlson said, ‘It’s hard not to conclude they’re intentionally trying to degrade our culture and hurt our children’
O’You have these kids learning about critical race theory, they’re learning that they should aspire to people like Cardi B. You see that fundamentally we are seeing the destruction of American values, American principles,’ Owens said
The pair upsized the bedroom imagery with sexually suggestive dances on top of a gigantic bed set.
Speaking to Carlson, conservative author and political commentator, Candace Owens said the performance was essentially pornography.
‘Virtually, what we were looking at last night was a lesbian sex scene being simulated on television, and this is considered feminist.
‘This feels more sinister. This is starting to me to seem like it’s not even left or right, it’s not a political issue. This seems like an attack on American values, American traditions, and you’re actually actively trying to make children aspire to things that are grotesque,’ she added, calling it a celebration of ‘perversity’.
‘You have these kids learning about critical race theory, they’re learning that they should aspire to people like Cardi B. You see that fundamentally we are seeing the destruction of American values, American principles.’
Carlson said the performance was: ‘Totally degrading. And the same people who make it will lecture you about ‘you hate women’ or something.’
Cardi B put her head over the edge of the bed while spreading her legs wide while other dancers above and below did the same
The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) said in statement the ‘CBS Grammys broadcast contributed to the sexual exploitation of women by glamorizing prostitution and stripping.’
The NCOSE said that show could have easily have come from a pornography film
Meanwhile, an anti-pornography group, the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) said in statement the ‘CBS Grammys broadcast contributed to the sexual exploitation of women by glamorizing prostitution and stripping.’
‘The performance by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion showed the two women and backup performers wearing thongs and lingerie, dancing on a stripper pole, and crawling around and twerking on a bed together.
‘In a performance that could have been cut from a hardcore pornography film, CBS allowed a glamorization of stripping and prostitution to be broadcast in front of a national audience — a portion of which were children — for no other reason than for TV ratings,’ the center’s senior vice president and executive director Dawn Hawkins said.
‘Despite the ‘popularity’ of the song performed by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, CBS should have never allowed this kind of explicit performance to happen at the Grammys.’
Prostitution and stripping are ‘never empowering for women,’ Hawkins continued, noting that such activities only serve to ‘set up systems that exploit and oppress women.’
NCOSE was founded in 1962 with its mission to expose ‘the links between all forms of sexual abuse and exploitation,’ including child sexual abuse, the public health harms of pornography and sexual objectification, according to its website.
The group say they believe the award show was better for the cutting room floor of an adult-film studio than national television.
The performance was at its raunchiest when Cardi appeared atop a gigantic bed covered in oversized satin sheets.
The song wowed critics and topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, but it was not submitted for a nomination at the 2021 ceremony
It was the first time Cardi and Megan had performed the song live, as it was released in August at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, making it impossible to perform it in concert
Megan Thee Stallion, 26, walked in wearing her own metallic ensemble
There was plenty of criticism online over the pair’s performance on Sunday night
She laid down and put her head over the edge of the bed while spreading her legs wide.
Megan joined her again for some almost X-rated dancing as the pair mimed scissoring and other sex positions atop the bed.
Plenty of other on social media also criticized the performance by the pair and its pornographic nature.
‘They performed WAP at the Grammy’s…. Yet they are offended by Dr. Seuss, Pepe Le Pew, Mr. Potato Head, Christians, and Jesus.. It’s simple what’s wrong with society, it’s a moral issue like we’ve never seen, and it’s disgusting..,’ wrote Matt Couch on Twitter.
‘They have cancelled or censored Dumbo, Peter Pan, Pepe Le Pew, Mr. Potato Head, Dr. Seuss, Lady and the Tramp, removed classics like Grease and Gone With The Wind, a classic Christmas song, ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’… but soft porn is now okay for primetime TV with Cardi B & WAP?’ he added in a second tweet.
‘Two weeks ago I was scolded because ‘WAP wasn’t for children’ so it was stupid of me to compare it to Dr. Seuss. Flash forward to last night when this is aired on national television for any and everyone to watch and learn how to be a famous prostitute. Good job. Point made,’ wrote another contributor online.
‘CBS allowed them to perform WAP but Janet Jackson is still banned over a boob?’ asked Twitter user 1814Josh.
‘So we’re canceling children’s books but we’re letting our kids watch filth like Cardi B and her WAP at the Grammys? Yes little girls, feminism means you can be anything! Just not a wife, mother or woman of God…’ tweeted doctor Rupali Chadha.
Cardi B responded to the furore in a Twitter posting on Monday night
Cardi B responded to the furore in a Twitter posting on Monday night.
‘Conservatives been making viral tweets comparing WAP to the banning of some of Dr Seuss books as if there’s any correlations between the two ….Well I can DEFINITELY tell some of ya ONLY read dr Seuss books cause ya mind lacks comprehension,’ the singer wrote.
‘When has a school made kids read the lyrics to wap? I get it wap might be a lil vulgar but stop comparing a sensual song to books that has RACIST content! How can ya not tell the difference?I see that common sense aint that common,’ she continued.
Although Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘WAP’ performance did inspire an immense amount of media coverage, it was not, in fact, able to score the Grammys good TV ratings:
Despite the raunchy performance, the ratings for the Grammy’s dropped to just 7.9 million viewers and believed to be the worst viewing figures ever for the award ceremony.
As for the song itself, it was the first time Cardi and Megan had performed the song live, as it was released in August at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, making it impossible to perform in concert previously.
The song wowed critics and topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, but it was not even submitted for a nomination at the 2021 ceremony.
Instead, Cardi and Megan are holding onto the track and hope to submit it at next year’s ceremony.
