A Queens grand jury indicted a car wash employee on charges that he drunkenly drove a car into a customer, killing her at the scene, authorities said Tuesday.

Edwin Tabares, 43, was arraigned in Queens supreme court Monday on vehicular manslaughter and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol charges, District Attorney Melinda Katz said.

Tabares allegedly drove a customer’s car off a cleaning rack at the car wash on Cross Bay Boulevard near Desarc Road at about 2 p.m. on Feb. 15, according to the prosecutor’s office.

He then slammed into Tracie McManus, who had just finished tipping other workers after getting her car washed, prosecutors allege.

McManus was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died of her injuries.

Tabares was arrested and taken to the 112tht Precinct, where he blew above the legal limit on an alcohol breath test, police said.

“The victim in this case was running the most mundane errand when she
senselessly lost her life,” Katz said in a statement, calling Tabares “selfish” for driving drunk while on duty on the car wash.

Attorney information for Tabares wasn’t immediately available.
