Honorary Easter bunny! Adorable disabled kitten who can’t use his hind legs makes friends with RABBITS at animal shelter where he awaits loving furever home

  • Canelo the cat is now said to be recovering well and awaiting adoption

A disabled cat without active rear legs was integrated with rabbits at an animal shelter in Utah this Easter weekend.

Canelo the domestic cat arrived at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab at six weeks old with a neurological condition that left it only able to move its front legs.

While getting laser therapy Canelo was left to recuperate in the company of rabbits.

The shelter shared images of the cat cozying up with the various bunnies and hopping around on its two functioning legs, in a similar fashion to the rabbits.

Canelo is now thought to be around five months old and said by the shelter to be growing stronger each day, to the point he is now spending time with other cats.

The kitten was received by the animal shelter at an estimated six-weeks-old

Some of the rabbits were more receptive to the cat than others, according to the shelter

‘I think they recognize that he has special needs,’ Amy Brown, who works at the shelter, said in a blog post. ‘They aren’t afraid of him.’

‘He runs around with his kitty friend and puts on a great wrestling show,’ wrote the shelter on a web page listing the cat as available for adoption.

‘You will be so entertained when you take Canelo home.’

‘Canelo is incontinent and with a slight mobility challenge. But that doesn’t stop him from being a superstar!’ the shelter added.

Canelo had no skeletal injuries or abnormalities when he was received so vets suspected a neurological issue was affecting his nerves and muscles.

His treatment began with acupuncture which would stimulate his nervous system, and hopefully eventually bring sensation and mobility back to his hind end.
