Morrisons has brought back its More Card loyalty scheme amid the battle with other major supermarkets to retain loyal customers.

The Morrisons More scheme, which replaces the My Morrisons scheme, can be used as a physical card or app and allows customers to earn points from selected products and counters in store and online as well as at Morrisons petrol stations.

Members of the loyalty scheme will be offered discounts on certain products and brands – acting in the same way as the ever popular Tesco’s Clubcard.

This week these include one-litre spirits for £17, Pringles for £1.25 and 20% off fresh fish from the counter each Friday.

Last month Co-op also revealed plans to cut prices for around 4.5million of its customers who are ‘members’.

It said the funding will be used to introduce new and lower prices which will only be available to Co-op members – which could help them to save up to £300 a year.

Also in April Sainsbury’s took on Tesco’s Clubcard by launching major changes to its Nectar loyalty card that has seen it widened to include discounts on 300 products.

The supermarket has introduced ‘Nectar Prices’ on the products in major stores and online for members of its scheme, as it aims to rival the perks offered by competitors.

Among the new deals for those using Nectar include Heinz Baked Beans discounted by a third, now costing shoppers 95p instead of £1.40.

And the price of a 200g jar of Nescafe Gold Blend is cut by more than half for Nectar holders, from £8.10 to £4.

The changes bring the Nectar scheme closer to that operated by Tesco, which launched its Clubcard in 1995 before adding the ‘Clubcard Prices’ element in May 2019 that offers lower prices on products across the store for those who have the card or app.

It was also revealed today that Morrisons is bringing back its Morrisons Fivers once a customer has earned 5,000 points, which can be redeemed on a future shop.

This week, customers can earn 100 points for every five pack of doughnuts costing 89p, or 500 points for every £5 spent at the pizza counter.

Rachel Eyre, chief customer and marketing officer at Morrisons, said: ‘Customers have been telling us how much they have missed the Morrisons Fivers and so we’ve brought them back as part of a radical overhaul of the Morrisons loyalty scheme.’
