In the footage, the excited flightless bird becomes separated from the colony.
This is because before it can rejoin its friends, the ice breaks away.
The filmer of the video and others can be heard shouting ‘No!’ and ‘He got split!’
The penguin is left with no choice but to make a leap of faith to be reunited with the rest of the group and slides across the ice rapidly.
Those filming express their relief saying ‘He made it, he’s back with his friends’ when they see the penguin with its colony again.
