Paedophile Bradley Pen Dragon granted bail after ‘newspaper clippings of children’ found in his home

Notorious West Australian paedophile Bradley Pen Dragon will be allowed back into the community after being granted bail for an alleged breach of his supervision order.

The 62-year-old is accused of being in possession of images of children, which is forbidden as part of the convicted rapist’s 62 strict release conditions.

During an appearance in the Perth Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning it was revealed Dragon was taken back into custody after police found newspaper clippings with images of children in his house.

Dragon’s lawyer argued his client did not realise the images were inside the house, as they were given to him by Acacia Prison as part of an art program he was taking part in, and were still in sealed packaging when found.

The discovery came after Dragon voluntarily handed over two pieces of abstract art he had made to his supervision officer – one was a painting of a woman sitting at a bar, and another was a collage of faces.

His actions led to police searching the home and uncovering the newspaper clippings, which led to Dragon being taken back into custody just 48 hours after his release.

He has pleaded not guilty to contravening a requirement of a supervision order and will stand trial in October.

He will be released on bail, and subject to an electronic bracelet and his supervision conditions while in the community.

Dragon has spent half his life behind bars on child sex abuse charges in both Perth and Thailand, and maintains his belief that his attraction to children is natural.

Worried and angry community members expressed their concerns in private Facebook groups last month after discovering the serial child sex offender had been released from prison and was living near them.

They were warned that posting the address, even just the suburb, on social media was a criminal offence, and many of the posts were deleted.
