A friend of the brothers told The Sunday Times: ‘He won’t retaliate. He never would because he’s dignified and unbelievably loyal.
‘William is a sitting duck because Harry knows he isn’t going to retaliate. It’s cruel, cowardly and so sad for William to keep taking the punches.
‘He’s keeping quiet for the good of his family and the country.’
Harry shared a shocking claim that his elder brother Prince William physically attacked him at Nottingham Cottage in 2019 and that a ‘red mist’ came over the heir to the throne.
Harry’s bombshell memoir ‘Spare’ is set to be released on Tuesday
The attack allegedly saw the Prince of Wales grabbing him by the collar, breaking his necklace and knocking him to the ground, where he landed on his dog’s bowl, which cracked under his back.
It came after William reportedly branded Meghan Markle ‘rude’ and ‘difficult’ shortly before the Sussexes quit their royal roles.
Harry added he would have fought back if he had not been in therapy.
Harry and Meghan lived in the London home – dubbed ‘Nott Cott’ – set within the grounds of Kensington Palace, from 2016 before they moved to Frogmore Cottage in the Windsor estate in April 2019.
Other bombshell revelations in the book see Harry call his brother his ‘arch-nemesis’ and claim he ‘lunged’ at him and ‘grabbed his shirt twice’ moments after their grandfather the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral.
Harry, in his bombshell memoir, details how Prince William was ‘shouting’ and ‘really steaming’ when he grasped at him during the dispute in front of then-Prince Charles following the funeral of Prince Philip.
William is said to have then used a secret code phrase about Princess Diana and embraced Harry in a hug.
William allegedly reiterated: ‘I swear to you now on Mummy’s life that I just want you to be happy’.

In a report of a passage from his highly anticipated autobiography, Harry alleged the confrontation took place at his London home in early 2019 and had left him with a visible injury to his back after landing on a dog bowl after the Prince of Wales grabbed his brother by the collar, ripped his necklace then knocked him to the floor
And in his interview with ITV to plug his memoir, the Duke accused William and Kate of ‘stereotyping’ against his wife Meghan, which prevented them from ‘welcoming her in’ to the family.
When asked by Bradby what he meant, he said: ‘Well, American actress, divorced, biracial, there’s – there’s all different parts to that and what that can mean but if you are, like a lot of my family do, if you are reading the press, the British tabloids, [Yeah] at the same time as living the life, then there is a tendency where you could actually end up living in the tabloid bubble rather than the actual reality.’
Meghan was previously married to American TV producer Trevor Engelson for three years from 2011 until 2014.
Before meeting Harry, Meghan had starred in US legal drama series Suits in which she played paralegal-turned-lawyer Rachel Zane.
Harry has said there can be reconciliation with the rest of his family, so long as they take ‘accountability’.
Speaking about what he wants from his family and book, Harry told Tom Bradby: ‘I want reconciliation, but first there needs to be some accountability.
‘You can’t just continue to say to me that I’m delusional and paranoid when all the evidence is stacked up, because I was genuinely terrified about what’s gonna happen to me.’
The Prince and Princess of Wales are still due to carry out an engagement in the north of England this week, while King Charles will visit Scotland, it has been reported.
