Stimulus check – Struggling families could get $300 child payments for YEARS under Biden’s economic plan

HARD-hit families could continue to be handed $300 child payments for years to come as calls mount to keep the cash flowing under Joe Biden's economic plan.

From July, stimulus checks of sort are scheduled to start going out for up to $300 per child per month as part of a one-year expansion of the child tax credit – but pressure is being piled on to make these payments permanent.

It comes after the president laid out the blueprints of his American Families Plan during his address to Congress on Wednesday to help those most in need.

Child credit has been extended for 2021 thanks to Biden's Covid relief package that was signed off in March, which has also seen millions receive stimulus checks of up to $1,400.

Biden's plan for families, however, would continue the expansion and potentially checks too through to 2025.

But some Democrats are pushing for payments to become a permeant fixture to combat child poverty figures in the US by helping parents pay essential bills.

Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Rep Richard Neal, has introduced a bill extend the credit for good.

"For our economy to fully recover from this pandemic, we must finally acknowledge that workers have families, and caregiving responsibilities are real," he said.

It comes after Biden suggested a fourth round of stimulus checks could on the way .

During his speech, the president touted the 160 million Covid relief checks that have been sent out under his landmark America Rescue Plan, prompting Google searches about a fourth payment to surge.

"We kept our commitment, Democrats and Republicans, of sending $1,400 rescue checks to 85 percent of American households," Biden said during his address.

"We've already sent more than 160 million checks out the door. It's making a difference. You all know it when you go home. For many people, it's making all the difference in the world."

Searches for "Biden fourth stimulus" and "Biden fourth stimulus check" increased 250 percent as Biden spoke.

While he made no mention of an additional round of payments, Biden highlighted two letters he'd received from a mother and a grandmother, informing him how much the checks had helped them.

While it's unclear if more federal relief may be on the horizon, support is growing among Democrats for additional cash.

Last month, 50 Democratic members of the house and 21 Democratic Senators signed a letter urging Biden to send out recurring stimulus payments until the end of the pandemic.

"Unemployment insurance has replaced lost income for millions who have lost their jobs. But millions of others do not qualify for unemployment insurance after seeing their hours reduced, switching to lower-paying jobs, or temporarily leaving the workforce to care for family members during the pandemic," the letter read.

"This crisis is far from over, and families deserve certainty that they can put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads."
