A female student in China has become the new national symbol of hard work after being filmed tying a fluorescent light through her hair so she could study in the dark.
The unnamed young woman has gone viral on Weibo – the country’s version of Twitter – after the footage was shared from a university in the northern province of Hebei.
In the short clip, the dedicated student can be seen coiling part of her ponytail around the cylinder light bulb, which she borrowed from a friend, turning it into a makeshift reading light.
She was forced to take the extraordinary measure last week when the lights in the study hall went out while studying late at night with friends, reports Sina News.

A topic thread on Weibo has been dedicated to the video, entitled ‘Girl studying for Master’s on corridor put a light on her head to study’.
It has been viewed more than 290 million times since it was created on November 14 and has created 17,000 discussion threads.
Fellow students across the country have been sharing their own similar stories of having to cram into the early hours in the run up to exams.
The student is believed to have been revising for China’s annual Unified National Graduate Entrance Examination.
The tough exam, if passed, allows students to enrol in the country’s Master’s programmes.
Those taking the assessment will be tested on foreign languages, politics, maths and general knowledge.
It takes place in mid-December and this year will be taken by an estimated 3.77 million people.
It is not the first time students in China have made the news for their dedication.
Last year a student at Beijing’s Tsinghua University went viral on Weibo after a picture emerged of him studying on a laptop while riding his bike.
And in 2012, a group of students broke into Qingdao University in Shandong Province at night so they could bag the best seats for the following day’s lectures.
Meanwhile in 2018, a dedicated teacher was praised online for teaching his class underneath an umbrella due to the classroom’s leaky ceiling.
According to Pear Video, the footage was taken at Shanqiu Teachers’ College at Shangqiu city of Henan Province, central China.
The professor can be seen giving his students a lesson about computers.
As the roof dripped water in the classroom, the teacher held an umbrella whilst walking across a stage in front of the blackboard.
