Two dead whales dislodge from hull of HMAS Sydney in California
Two dead whales dislodged from underneath a Royal Australian Navy ship as it berthed in San Diego at the weekend.
The incident was confirmed by the Australian Department of Defence in a statement on Wednesday.
“The Royal Australian Navy can confirm that as HMAS Sydney was berthing alongside Naval Base San Diego in California two deceased whales dislodged from her hull beneath the surface,” it said.

HMAS Sydney (V) was launched in 2018 and commissioned in May 2020. The 146 metre-long ship is a Hobart Class guided missile destroyer.
It has a crew of approximately 180 people and Commander Edward Seymour is the Commanding Officer.
According to the Navy, HMAS Sydney’s role is surveillance, surface and undersea warfare and air defence.
