John Roemer wrote a letter to Governor Scott Walker before his retirement saying: “I graciously wish to thank the citizens of the state of Wisconsin and the county of Juneau for giving me this precious opportunity to serve as their circuit court judge. It is a responsibility that, at times, I can barely fathom.”
Prior to becoming a judge, he served as the district attorney for 12 years.

Reports indicate that the former Juneau County Judge was shot and killed in his home in the Township of New Lisbon, Wisconsin in the morning on Friday, 3 June 2022.

Juneau County Sheriff’s Office received a call informing law enforcement of an armed person and shots fired in a residence at about 6:30am.
Subsequently, cops swooped on the property after receiving reports that an armed suspect had fired two shots inside.
Officers are currently investigating the case as both a homicide and a case of domestic terrorism, ABC reported.

Scott Southworth, the Juneau Country district attorney from 2005 to 2013 said about the judge: “He was a brilliant legal scholar who devoted an incredible amount of time to do the right thing. I learned a great deal from him."
