Why is Spirit airlines cancelling flights?
According to FlightAware.com, in a two-day period, the budget airline cancelled 442 flights and delayed over 400 at Orlando International airport.
“We’re working around the clock to get back on track in the wake of some travel disruptions over the weekend due to a series of operational challenges,” the airline said in a statement.
“We understand how frustrating it is for our Guests when plans change unexpectedly, and we’re working to find solutions. We ask Guests to actively monitor their emails and flight status before heading to the airport.”
The company citied reasons of “a series of weather and operational challenges,” as the reasoning behind the chaos.
While customers understand that you cannot control the weather, they were more upset about the way the situation was handled.
“It looked like a hurricane shelter,” Rebecca Osborn, who was at the airport, told USA Today.
“There were people everywhere: little kids, old people,” Osborn’s boyfriend Eddie Gordon added in. “They never came out and gave any type of explanation or offered anything… First, they said it was weather, then they said we don’t have enough staff.”
Spirit airlines were not the only ones causing chaos across airports due to cancelling flights.
According to FlightAware.com, American Airlines had also cancelled around 850 flights and delayed around 2,000 the following day.
