AnonSurvey: A new Bitcoin tool for transparency
The possibilities the BSV blockchain opens up are endless, but one of the most important is the chance to transform the world into a much more transparent and honest place.
With Bitcoin’s on-chain data storage and time-stamped records, developers in the BSV ecosystem are building tons of new tools to transform everything from auditing to iGaming. Recently, Eli Afram highlighted a new tool for bringing transparency to polling, voting, and surveying.
AnonSurvey – What is it and how does it work?
One of the major problems in the world today is the integrity of elections, surveys, and polls. There are so many accusations about tampering with data that nobody really knows what’s true anymore. Just take a look at the accusations surrounding the 2020 U.S. Presidential election for an example of how messy things can get.
AnonSurvey doesn’t exactly aim to solve election integrity at the national scale, but it can do the same thing for online surveys and polls on a smaller scale. It’s hugely important for companies, organizations, and the people who are interpreting the results of the surveys and polls they run to ensure the results are accurate and haven’t been tampered with.
AnonSurvey allows users to run polls on any subject matter, setting up multiple answers (think typical Twitter polls for an example), and even allowing the pollster to publish the answers to the blockchain. Results can also be exported or can be viewed as pie charts and more in “stats” mode.
One token, one vote
Poll organizers purchase a certain number of tokens and distribute them to the people who they wish to survey. One token gets one vote, although identity is not linked to the tokens.
The possibilities here are obvious. Here are a few:
- Workplaces could poll employees on how to improve things while allowing workers to speak anonymously.
- Communities could hold votes on how to use resources or make improvements to local areas.
- Companies could select several hundred customers or clients and give each of them a chance to express their satisfaction anonymously.
The main point is that, by issuing tokens to participants, the pollsters can avoid the results being influenced by online bots or groups who are not welcome to participate, and that the participants who are selected to participate are anonymous and can cast their votes without fear of reprisals or negative consequences.
BSV and data integrity
The ability to publish the results to the blockchain is one of the main features of AnonSurvey. The BSV enterprise blockchain is all about data integrity, and unlike other blockchains that can’t scale infinitely, it allows for on-chain data storage of any kind.
In the future, as use cases like this pick up steam, it will be possible to store endless data sets on the infinite BSV blockchain. Anyone who is willing to pay the fees can have data of their choice immutably stored on the largest public utility blockchain by every measurable metric. Data stored on the BSV blockchain recently surpassed 1 terabyte, and that’s only the beginning.
In time, this will usher in a more transparent, honest world where the results of polls, surveys, and perhaps even elections will be provably honest and fair. AnonSurvey is a great start in this direction. It showcases the possibilities of tokenized voting and the ability to publish data on the Bitcoin enterprise blockchain.
