Lawton Plastic Surgery Says "Yes" to Crypto Payments

Lawton Plastic Surgery in San Antonio, Texas is the latest business to say “yes” to cryptocurrency payments. Owned by Dr. Gary Lawton, the facility is supporting assets like bitcoin, Ethereum, and several other altcoins, and has agreed to accept these assets as methods of payment.

Lawton Plastic Surgery Will Accept BTC for Procedures

In an interview, Dr. Lawton said:

Cryptocurrency not only serves as an alternative payment method but can very well be the currency of the future. Cryptocurrency is dominating the news at the end of 2021, with big-name celebrities such as Matt Damon plugging digital currency, and LA’s iconic Staples Center being rebranded as the Crypto.com Arena.

Patients will be able to pay with whatever wallet system they choose. Layton is working with several different bitcoin and crypto payment processors as a means of allowing customers to pay with a wide array of different cryptocurrencies. Among the procedures that are available to clients are breast cosmetic procedures, liposuction, facelifts, rhinoplasty, chin liposuction, and tummy tucks.

Veronica Gonzalez – who has served as the practice manager for more than 20 years – stated:

Accepting cryptocurrency is a logical step for the practice and gives our patients more options.

Aside from having his practice, Dr. Lawton is also the founder of FullyBookedDoctors.com, a tech startup that specializes in helping plastic surgeons remain busy all the time. He says:

We are accepting patients from all over the world, many who realize crypto is the currency of the future. Could Elon Musk, Jack Dorsey, and the founders of YouTube be wrong? I think not.

The news is exciting because it means crypto is being pushed closer towards its initial goal of serving as a payment method. Bitcoin and many of its altcoin cousins were initially created as a means of knocking fiat currencies, credit cards, and checks to the side. They would become the ultimate and primary payment methods for individuals looking to purchase everyday goods and services.

However, this has been a slow journey given how volatile many of these assets have been. They are extremely vulnerable to price swings, and as a result, many stores, retailers, and businesses have rejected the idea of accepting crypto payments, and to be fair, we can’t fully blame them.

Why So Many Have Said “No”

If a customer walks into a store and buys $50 worth of merchandise with BTC, for example, that store is at risk if it does not exchange the digital money into fiat currency right away. The next day, the price of BTC could fall and that $50 will turn into $40. While the customer gets to keep all they bought, the store has lost profit.

Lawton is not the first plastic surgeon to accept crypto for procedures. Georgia Plastic Reconstructive announced that it would be accepting crypto in October of last year for similar cosmetic work.
