Asda supermarket urgently evacuated as bomb squad investigates suspicious package & customers warned to stay away | The Sun

AN ASDA supermarket has been evacuated after a "suspicious package" was found outside the building this morning.

Shoppers have been urged to stay away from the area in Tunstall, Staffordshire, while a bomb squad investigates.

A 330ft cordon is in place and roads surrounding the shop have been closed following the 8.30am drama.

The Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team are on their way to assess the package, cops said.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police added: "Officers are currently at Asda in Tunstall following reports of a suspicious package being found outside the store.

"Police were called at 8.30am (Thursday, September 22).

"The store has been evacuated and a 100m cordon is in place.

"Roads surrounding the store have been closed, including Scotia Road.

"The Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team are on their way to assess the package."
