AN ASPIRING model was left with "chemical burns" and "horrendous" rashes over her face for three weeks after using Garnier micellar water.

Student Amelia Green, 17, had swollen eyes and was covered in painful red burns after using the highstreet make-up remover.

The teen from Sidcup, Kent, started using the oil-infused micellar water three weeks ago – and she soon realised that she was breaking out in rashes and burns.

Her swollen eyes started to close up, and the 17-year-old had to endure multiple trips to A&E for her unexplained skin issues.

Despite being treated for tropical skin infections and given different types of antibiotics, Amelia's skin wasn't clearing up and no one seemed to know what was causing the problems.

She then started missing school after kids made nasty comments about her 'chemical' rashes – as she was unable to put makeup on the painful patches.

After a few days without using the micellar water, the burning cleared up and – and the aspiring model thought her skin was recovering.

But earlier this week when she went to take her makeup off with the water again, she says her skin reacted "instantly."

Now Amelia and her mum Mel are adamant that it's the makeup remover causing her 'chemical' burns and red-raw rashes.

Amelia, who is currently studying for her A Levels, told The Sun Online: "I have got chemical burns all over my face.

"I haven't been able to go to school, and people have been making nasty comments about my face and my appearance.

"After weeks on antibiotics, my teachers and classmates told me my face looked so much better.

"But that evening, I took my makeup off with the water, and straight after my face felt like it was burning. It immediately looked red and painful and dry like it had been originally.

"I was in the same place as I was before, my eye was swollen. My face was reacting more and more and more.

"I want a proper diagnosis.

"It feels like it's going to be on my face forever. No one will help."

And now the 17-year-old's potential modelling career is on the line because of her skin issues.

She was called to an interview with a modelling agency who were keen to kickstart her career – but now she's terrified to show up as her face has flared up again.

Despite getting the odd spot on her face as a teen, Amelia's skin is clear – and says she's never had issues before using the Garnier product.

The student added: "I'm supposed to go on Sunday.

"But I'm worried I'm going to show up with this on my face and they're going to think 'why have we decided to take her on.'"

Concerned mum Mel said that at one point, doctors started treating her daughter for tropical skin infections because they were confused about what was causing the issues.

But when Amelia used the micellar water again, the mum said the reaction was "unbelievable."

Mel said: "Her face has chemical burns everywhere. It's been going on for three weeks.

"She thought it was an allergic reaction, and she's been treated for tropical skin infections.

"As soon as she used the Garnier micellar water, it hit, just like that. It was unbelievable.

"Her eye was so bad that it was closing up at one point.

"This is horrendous, it's been horrendous.

"We had to go to A&E twice, and we tried to go to a walk-in eye clinic before we realised what was causing it."

Mel and Amelia also claim that when they tried to flag the issue with Garnier on Tuesday, they had the phone put down on them.

Since being contacted by The Sun Online, the cosmetics company said they're investigating the issue.

Amelia's mum Mel added: "I don't want other young girls to go through this.

"It affected her school work, she wants to go to university to study criminology, and she's missed out on so much work."

A Garnier spokesperson said: "Garnier’s micellar water is subject to thorough and rigorous testing to ensure all safety and quality standards are met.

"Amelia contacted us yesterday morning and her case was escalated for review by our medical team.

"We have been in contact since to offer all the support we can, including a dermatologist consultation to help her understand whether she has any specific sensitivities to certain ingredients, which can develop at any time in a person’s life."
