A fire has broken out at Kooyong Tennis Club.

The Age revealed this month that the club had called in accounting giant Grant Thornton to investigate a $2.4 million loss from its club dining and functions operations.

The revelation came amid a growing feud within the exclusive gated club, with several members concerned by what they said was a lack of transparency, while the president has issued a warning to members against making “inappropriate comments” to staff about the ongoing financial issues.

The club is expected to host its annual Kooyong Classic tournament next month, a lead-up event for the Australian Open.

The classic is scheduled for the 10th to the 12th of January, with world number four, Jannik Sinner from Italy, number six, Holger Rune from Denmark, Chinese sensation Zhang Zizhen, world number 11, Karen Khachanov, and former US Open Champion Dominic Thiem all confirmed to play.

More to come.
