Police investigate ‘unexplained’ death of 19-year-old girl at student halls in Manchester

  • Emergency crews rushed to the flats in the city centre at 9.30pm on Thursday
  • The teenager was pronounced dead at the accommodation shortly afterwards
  • Police said today enquiries into the girl’s ‘unexplained’ tragedy were ongoing 

Police are investigating the ‘unexplained’ death of a teenage girl at student halls in Manchester.

Emergency crews rushed to the flats in the city centre at around 9.30pm on Thursday to reports of a sudden death.

The girl, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accommodation shortly after.

Police said today that the death is being treated as ‘unexplained’, with enquiries still ongoing.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: ‘Officers were called just before 9.30pm last night to a report of a sudden death on New Wakefield Street in Manchester.

‘Emergency services attended and a 19-year-old woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

‘The death is currently being treated as unexplained whilst officers carry out enquiries.

‘A report is being prepared for HM Coroner.’

The flats where the tragedy took place are understood to be part of a new multi-million pound accommodation block, standing 32 storeys high and housing some 603 students.
