Scots schoolgirl, 14, dies suddenly in suspected drugs tragedy as teenage boy charged by police | The Sun

A TEENAGER has been arrested in connection with alleged drugs offences after a 14-year-old schoolgirl tragically died.

Police said they were called to reports of the girl taking unwell within a property in Inverkeithing, Fife, at 2.45am on Monday.

She was rushed by ambulance to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy but sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

Her death is being treated as “unexplained” but cops haven’t ruled out drugs.

Another teenage girl was also taken to hospital after feeling unwell, but she is understood to be in a stable condition.

Yesterday, Fife Council chiefs announced the “tragic and untimely death” of a pupil from Inverkeithing High School.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Ian Adair said: “It is with profound sadness and regret that I have to inform you of the untimely death of one of our students over the weekend.

“Whilst I am not in a position just now to share any details surrounding these tragic events, I want to reassure you that supports will be put in place in school, from tomorrow, for anyone affected by what has happened.

“If your young person needs space to talk with a member of our Support staff – including colleagues from the Educational Psychology Service – please ask them to make their way to the Pupil Support Base at any time.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of our young person, and I am sure yours will be too over the coming days in particular.”
In a statement, the council’s education manager, Karen Lees, said:

“We are aware of the tragic and untimely death of a young person from Inverkeithing High School.

“We are supporting the school community and in particular any pupils who knew this young person, providing space, time and help to those who might be impacted by this terrible event.”

Local councillor David Barratt said: "This is very sad and distressing news and my thoughts are with the friends and family of those concerned."

On Monday, Inverkeithing Community Council said a defibrillator at a property near the school had been removed “for an emergency”.

It is not yet known whether it was used in a bid to save the girl.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.45am on Monday, 18 September, 2023, officers were called to a report of a teenage girl taking unwell within a property in Inverkeithing.

“Emergency services attended, and she was taken by ambulance to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy. She was pronounced deceased a short time later.

“Her death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are continuing.

“A 17-year-old male has been arrested and charged in connection with a drugs offence and released pending further enquiries.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
