Who are the Russian 'spy ring'?

Orlin Roussev, 45, Bizer Dzhambazov, 41, and Katrin Ivanova, 31, led unassuming suburban lives in Britain for the last 10 years.

But their cover was blown in February when they were held by anti-terrorism cops and the trio have been remanded in custody ever since.

The Bulgarian nationals are charged with possessing identity documents with "improper intention", reports The BBC.

These include passports and IDs for UK, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, and the Czech Republic.

They were arrested under the Official Secrets Act by counter-terrorism detectives from the Metropolitan Police.

All three are set to go on trial at the Old Bailey in London in January.

The trio are accused of posing as journalists with forged press cards and clothing branded with the logos of the Discovery and National Geographic channels.

The Times reports that they allegedly used the uniforms for for surveillance operations against targets in London, Germany and Montenegro.

A 31-year-old man from west London and a 29-year-old woman from north London have also been arrested.

Katrin Ivanova

Katrin Ivanova, 31, is understood to have moved to Harrow in north west London with Bizer Dzhambazov, 41, more than 10 years ago.

Former neighbours of the couple said they brought round pies and cakes as gifts.

Ivanova reportedly worked as a private sector laboratory assistant.

The pair also ran a Bulgarian community organisation, which introduces Bulgarians into the "culture and norms of British society".

The couple are also understood to have worked for electoral commissions in London, which help Bulgarian nationals living outside the country to vote in its elections.

Bizer Dzhambazov

Dzhambazov has reportedly worked as a hospital driver while in the UK.

Neighbour Hari Krishna, 33, lived on the same floor as Bizer and Katrin.

He told The Sun: "They were very good at gelling into the block and always offered people gifts, including coffee, Bulgarian sweets and flowers.

"Even when my mum visited from India, they offered her presents.

"There were a lot of guests and lots of gatherings in the evenings at their flat.

"Sometimes I would catch them at the postbox and they would say ‘Good morning doctor’."

Hari also claimed that car enthusiast "Max" owned several motors, including a BMW and Chrysler.

A woman living opposite the couple said they put up “chunky” security cameras on the front of their home.

She said: "We were concerned they were pointing at our house but of course now we suspect it was pointing at the road.”

“They used to have a van come quite late at night, around midnight to 1am, and they would load it up.

"We thought they were just doing deliveries. We never spoke to them and they never spoke to us."

The neighbour added that a number of people used to come in and out of the property while the couple lived there.

Orlin Roussev

Roussev, of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, is said to have a documented history of business dealings with Russia.

He moved to the UK in 2009 where he has worked in financial services.

His profile on LinkedIn says that he ran a signals intelligence business and that he advised pro-Kremlin politician Petar Dimitrov.

His most-recent address is listed as a guest house in the seaside town of Great Yarmouth.
