Our street is flooded with poo from holiday homes – we can't flush our toilets & they keep us up having sex in hot tubs

FURIOUS villagers have had their streets flooded with poo as Airbnb holidaymakers have sex in hot tubs and block toilets.

Locals in a quaint Derbyshire village say the four getaway cottages on their doorsteps are causing a stink – and at times they can't flush their own loos or run taps because of the sewage overflow.

And the holidaymakers descend to the village to party, have sex in hot tubs, and have overburdened their sewage system, according to the furious locals.

Former borough councillor Jo Ward is now fighting a civil case against the owner and manager of the holiday lets – which cost up to £400 a night.

She told the Sun Online: “There’s poo and more poo flowing out. It’s disgusting.

“The Airbnb business should not even be there. The selfishness and greed of this business have ruined it for the people who have lived here in peace for many years."

Retired equine therapist Jo, 74, lives in an historic cottage in the stunning Derbyshire hamlet of Wheatcroft, on the southern outskirts of Matlock.

She has three near neighbours in Potters Hill, and now up to 20 different random people living it up while paying as holiday guests.

The house and three cottages next door – which had previously been rented as homes to single inhabitants until they were "driven away by the developers” – were turned into holiday retreats in June last year.

Jo explained that the tiny hamlet at the top of a hill has no main sewerage system going down into the nearest South Wingfield village.

HEADS UP

I draw on my hairline – no-one notices and people are shocked when they realise

The new holiday rentals are driving the locals potty because the sudden swell in people using the facilities is putting pressure on the delicate system.

Despite the spectacular view and the sound of cattle grazing, the area was spoilt by the excrement that seeps out of the septic tank.

But due to the huge pressure, it spills over into the country lane leaving a brown, stinky slimy mess on one side.

Property company boss Tracie, 56, who has lived in the cottage for 12 years with her partner, said: "At times we can't flush our own loo or use our wash sink because the sewerage system is overwhelmingly overburdened.

“We do a pee and leave it and I have to remind people ‘Please stop flushing the loo.’ It’s a ridiculous way to live.

“It’s due to the increase in people using the system, which is not gradual and hits the local infrastructure in ‘waves’, meaning it overflows.

“And been worsened by the installation of a Jacuzzi in the garden of the farmhouse let which is right outside my bedroom window.”

TAKING THE PEE

Tracie said there were numerous other problems living next door to an intrusive Airbnb let – which she claims breaches land and business covenants.

She has seen and heard couples having noisy sex in the hot tub beneath her window – as well as a semi-dressed man having a pee in the garden and guests leaving cigarette butts and beer bottles outside.

She said: “Now the weather is warming up the holiday lets are getting busier again. There are a lot of young people in their 20s staying here, some even students, who want to party.

“We’ve seen sex in the eight-seat Jacuzzi outside, a man peeing over the balcony just feet away from me.

“Last week we had a lawyer celebrating his birthday with his family. We get all different ages from all walks of life.”

Tracie added: “There are also problems with parking, noise, and of course the poo, it’s coming out of everywhere.

“There are too many people flushing but the guests aren't to blame. They’re not aware the machine is overburdened. But theJjacuzzi hasn't helped the drainage problem."

Jo, who claims developers cut down her prized trees on the historic site leaving her distraught, said the drainage problems would never have happened if the holiday rentals were not there.

She said legal covenants on the land mean that businesses cannot be run from the site without planning permission and that the change from rented properties to holiday lets is a material change of use – which breaches rights.

She's now suing them in a civil suit against them for alleged breach of the rules.

The four Airbnbs lets on the Plaistow Farm site are owned by BSP Holdings and managed by Harry Beaumont.

The properties are owned by Nottinghamshire entrepreneur Steven Singh.

Tracie has even parked her car across the segment of land outside her cottage, blocking access to the holiday lets in retaliation.

A note in the window of the vehicle reads: “To whom it may concern. This car has been here since December 21.

POO WHAT?

"It forms part of a civil case with the owner of the holiday lets. Your host was completely aware of the parking situation when he permitted occupation.

“If you have any issues regarding the above, please raise them with your host.”

Another disgruntled resident said: “I have lived here for 10 years and there is now a disturbance to the peace and quiet of my retirement.

“There has been loud music played and I feel ill at ease. There is no consistency of who may be staying there. The manager has been dismissive of my questioning and intimidating.

“Parking, as well as everything else, has been a problem. The holiday cottages have disturbed our quality of life.”

Tim Gould, 57, who has lived there for 16 years, added: “The sewage and surface water has caused a problem, it is taking such a load, but hopefully it can be sorted out.

“It is difficult having a shared facility – these holiday lets are not permanent people and we would rather they not be here."

When approached by The Sun Online, holiday let manager Harry Beamont, 27, confessed: "Locals don’t like me. I've set us as a business and it’s sour grapes. It’s a stunning location.

"We have four properties as holiday lets which I manage, and the first one was set up in June 2021.

“There is a maximum of 14 people across four properties and they are only 40 per cent occupied. We charge £120-£400 per night per property.

“The sewers are a problem, there is clearly an overflow issue, eight properties are all linked to the same tank.

“As far as I’m aware the landlord BSP has agreed to pay a percentage for the tank to be emptied more often. It needs to be."

He bragged that the negative sewage controversy had in fact had “the opposite impact on our business with more people inquiring about bookings.”
