Screams as two children among 'eight injured' after rollercoaster DERAILS at Landmark Adventure Park

TWO children are among "eight people injured" after a rollercoaster derailed at a Scottish theme park.

Paramedics rushed to Landmark Adventure Park in Carrbridge to reports that at least two cars were hanging off.


Witnesses claim the two carriages became derailed at around 11.40am, and eight people – including two children – are believed to have been hurt.

One said the theme park was "packed" at the time of the horror incident and the "crash" caused people to start "running away" from the site.

Shocked families reported hearing a loud bang and screaming.

An eyewitness told The Scottish Sun: "I heard a big bang and screams.

"People were coming off crying and then the fire brigade came."

Another said passengers on the ride had to be lifted off by rescue workers after emergency services raced to the incident.

Photos from the scene appear to show one car on its side, dangling over the tracks.

Reports suggest the six-carriage train was fully loaded, with 24 people on board.

Police Scotland said the children were treated at the scene after the incident caused by mechanical failure.

Another man who was there at the time said: "No one hurt just frightened kids."

He added: "I was far away when it happened so all I heard was a bang and screams."

A a theme parkgoer, who posted images of the incident on Twitter, said: "Park was packed, we heard a crash, most people were running away.

"We ran over to see if help needed. Last 2 cars derailed, people lifted off. Called emergency services."

'FRIGHTENED KIDS'

A special operations ambulance crew remain at the scene of the Runaway Timber Train ride.

A police spokesperson said: "Around 11.30am this morning, police and emergency services were called to a report that a carriage from a rollercoaster has suffered a mechanical failure an adventure park in Carrbridge, Aviemore.

"Two children sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

"Police are still at scene and enquiries are continuing."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 11.37am on Thursday, August 12, to support a multi-agency response at the Landmark Adventure Park, Carrbridge. 

"Operations Control mobilised a number of specialist resources to assist emergency service partners following reports of a rollercoaster derailment.

"Crews left the scene at 12.14pm."

The ride in question is described as being "family friendly" on the park's website.

It has a height restriction of 1.1 metres if accompanied by an adult 18 and over – otherwise it is 1.4 metres.

Landmark Adventure Park bosses have a video of the ride online – calling it the "Runaway Timber Train".
